Behind the Screen: Detecting and Preventing Domestic Violence Online

Glendale Commission on the Status of Women and Armenian Bar Association Partner to Present Panel Discussion

Glendale, CA – The Glendale Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) and the Armenian Bar Association (ABA) are proud to announce a joint event, “Behind the Screen: Detecting and Preventing Domestic Violence Online,” a curated panel exploring the intersection of technology, abuse, and justice in the digital age. The event will take place on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at 6:00 P.M. at the Glendale Adult Recreation Center, located at 201 E. Colorado Street in Glendale.

As technology becomes increasingly intertwined with everyday life, the internet has emerged not only as a tool for connection but also as a space where domestic violence takes new and complex forms. The panel will examine issues such as cyberstalking, digital coercive control, online harassment, doxxing, and technology-facilitated abuse, challenges that disproportionately impact women and marginalized communities.

Moderated by Diane Lambillotte, retired litigator and current Commissioner on the City of Glendale’s Commission on the Status of Women, the discussion will feature leading voices from the legal and health sectors, including:

•             Commissioner Laura Cohen – CA Superior Court of Los Angeles

•             Tigran Palyan, Esq. – Partner with Storm Palyan LLP

•             Dr. Steven Storage, MD – Amen Psychiatric Services

Together, they will unpack how evolving digital tools are weaponized in abusive relationships, explore legal frameworks addressing online violence, and share the importance of recognizing and addressing this trend in domestic violence.

“Online abuse is real-world abuse,” said Dr. Ramella Markarian, Chair of the Commission on the Status of Women. “As we continue to build awareness of domestic violence, we must also understand how technology can both perpetuate and help prevent it.”
