The successful applicant will be responsible for supervising the Hearing and Policy Unit. The Assistant Chief Counsel will supervise hearing officers and attorneys and assist Commissioners in the conduct of the most sensitive and complex formal hearings and proceedings, including but not limited to, complaint and investigatory proceedings, as well as informational hearings and complex rulemaking proceedings. The Assistant Chief Counsel will also be responsible for advising the Commission on the procedures and decisions of quasi-adjudicative/quasi-legislative proceedings and engage in policy and legislative analysis, as well as performing varying degrees of civil litigation and general management administrative tasks.
Applicants must have an active membership in the State Bar of California. Also, experience level in one of the following:
- Broad and extensive experience (more than five years in the practice of law) to qualify for this position
- Two years of experience in the California state service performing legal duties at a level of responsibility equivalent to Staff Counsel, Range D to qualify for this position
