The Armenian Bar Association has filed a formal opposition to a proposed $100M+ loan or financial guarantee to Azerbaijan under the Export-Import Bank Act of 1945. The loan, if it were to go forward, would support the export of Boeing commercial jets to Silk Way West Airlines in Azerbaijan. Silk Way West Airlines was reportedly deployed as an instrument of Azerbaijan’s iniquitous aggression against the people of Artsakh.
We stand firmly against this illicit pact which would, at a minimum, indirectly support a government responsible for severe human rights abuses, including ethnic cleansing, torture, forced disappearances of journalists, and the oppression of the native Armenian population of Artsakh. By approving this deal, the Export-Import Bank would knowingly endorse a regime that continues to violate fundamental human rights.
We urge decision-makers to reconsider this high-risk transaction and disassociate unequivocally from human rights atrocities. We expect full accountability and support peace, justice, and human dignity for all.
The deal really must be undone.
